Just a quick update to let you know that I have two more essays out on This Odd Mom, a refreshing online magazine that celebrates moms everywhere, in all of our glory!
As you may have see in my post on 21 March, I’ve been rather frustrated lately by the direction that online education has taken. It feels as if we’re fighting an uphill battle against corporate interests who want to squeeze every drop of “efficiency” out of the online education model. In part 1, I explore the one reason why I’m still doing it, but I also name the ten reality checks that can chase away the most intrepid parent. And then in part 2 I go into those ten reality checks in detail. No, it’s not a pretty landscape out there in cyber-education-land.
I’ve been turning over some ideas in my mind that may take me back toward traditional homeschooling. Isn’t it funny how the better the technology gets, the more technology we have–the closer we seem to get to throwing it all out the window?
